Whether you’re a high school student applying to college or a recent college grad applying to graduate school, we'll work together to make sure that you have the most compelling and powerful application possible - one that highlights who you are, what makes you unique, and what you’ll contribute to the campus community. Together, you and I will work on:
Essays
Applications
Resumes
Interviews
Building the college list
Deciding which schools to apply to early vs. regular decision
Picking majors and back-up majors
Waitlist and deferral letters, in the event that you receive either of these results
Each student comes to the table with their own set of goals and needs. As such, the first thing we do is put together a customized plan to ensure our time is focused on what matters most to you.
When it comes to the essay and application work, the most important thing is developing a clear, big picture vision for what we want the application to look like. You can think of this, roughly, as a list of all of the qualities, accomplishments, skills, values, contributions, and experiences that are central to who you are as a person. Our job on your applications is to make sure that we illustrate these things as vividly and powerfully as we possibly can, such that, when the admission officer finishes reading your application, they can fully appreciate just how awesome you are and, by extension, can envision all of the ways in which you’ll meaningfully engage with and contribute to their campus.
I always recommend that we take things slow at the beginning and not rush into the actual writing/drafting process. Reflection and brainstorming are rarely easy and are often just plain awkward. But that’s the most important part of the process. If we take our time at the beginning and get our foundation right (a clear picture of what we want each part of the application to communicate), the rest of the process will be a breeze.
I’d be remiss if I didn't mention just how much I genuinely love working on essays. I’d even go so far as to say that if that part of the job were taken away from me, I’d most likely change careers. In addition to the work we do during our meetings, I encourage students to send me drafts of essays for me to edit on my own time outside of meetings. I genuinely love every part of the writing process and hope that students will grow to enjoy it, too.
I’ve helped hundreds of students apply to college and graduate school - everything from UCs to Ivy League schools to Oxford and Cambridge to medical school and law school - and would love the opportunity to help you craft the perfect application.
